Incisional Hernia following Abdominal Surgery in Children: A Single Centre Experience

Background: Although uncommon, incisional hernia is a well-known complication of abdominal surgery in children and data on the pediatric age group are sparse. The aim this study was to evaluate single center’s experience with regards incidence outcome children. Materials Methods: This retrospective aged 15 years younger who developed following surgery, between January 2013 December 2017, at unit tertiary hospital Enugu, Nigeria. Results: During period, total 1004 surgeries were performed. Out number, 31 patients hernia: accounted for an rate 3.1%. There male predominance mean diagnosis 24 months. All presented protrusion or around site previous surgical scar. Non-operative treatment (serial bandaging) effective most patients. no mortality. Conclusion: Incisional surgery. recorded successful majority Future studies should emphasis specific risk factors (surgeon/patient) that may predispose hernia.
